Last act of the Battle of the Somme

Irina Gaber . . .

In France, the British used tanks for the first time on the battlefield. With these and new artillery barrage techniques, they carefully planned an infantry attack that would spearheaded by the Canadians. On this day, the Royal 22nd Regiment of Quebec City and the 25th Battalion of the Nova Scotia Rifles attacked the ruined village of Courcelette. The New Zealand Division joined them, in their first combat experience at the Somme. Thus began the last phase of this battle that had been going on since July.
