Bulgaria, also at war

Irina Gaber . . .

Since the beginning of the war, the Kingdom of Bulgaria had been courted by both camps. On this day, the country finally decided to side with the Central Powers. Bulgaria’s entry ino the war changed the balance of power in the Balkan peninsula and obliged Greece, long since neutral but internally divided, to officially join the Allied side in 1917. Thus, in 1918, Bulgaria would be among the defeated, and Greece, among the victors.
