After months of parliamentary debate, the Military Service Act was passed on this day. Conscription was to apply in the nine provinces of Canada – British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island – as well as in the Yukon and Northwest Territories.
